Why choose us?

Our team is lead by a SEO expert with a proven marketing track record; and a talented designer who has gained significant recognition for her modern and up to date web 2.0 designs.

So how does this benefit your business?

You may be launching a new internet venture, or perhaps already have a website which isn’t generating enough visitors or enquiries.

At Netgrade we differentiate ourselves from many web designers who can create excellent looking websites, but don’t have enough expertise when it comes to search engine optimisation (SEO). Factoring in optimisation during the design and build of a website is vital so that it can be easily discovered by Google and other search engines, thus raising your profile.

We are regularly approached by businesses that have had a new site designed for them which, due to lack of optimisation or wrong choice of technology, don’t receive the search engine ranking that they deserve. This results in poor search engine visibility, leading to loss of sales opportunities.

If you are a new web business - choose us if you need integrated, professional design and SEO services.

If you are an existing website owner - choose us if your website is not generating enough traffic. We can help improve your ranking significantly.

But don’t take our word for it, visit our case study page and feel free to contact our clients for references.

Why good web design is not enough?

October 15th, 2009

For some businesses who simply require a basic website for information purposes, then good web design may well be enough, in which case, Netgrade will be delighted to recommend some standard website designers. However, if you really want your website to work for you and become an integrated part of your business development function, then contact us today.

FACT
Search engines are the way in which 90% of people locate the internet resources they need and Google has a 75% market share in Europe and North America. (Source: Get to the top on Google by David Viney).

What steps can you take to make sure you appear in Google results when people search for your products or services?

This is where Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) comes into picture. SEO can be defined as the activity of optimizing Web pages or whole sites in order to make them more search engine-friendly, thus getting higher positions in search results.

So for example if you are selling sun glasses online and you specialize in a particular brand say for example “Ray-Ban”, then when people search for Ray Ban sun glasses in Google or Yahoo, you would ideally want to appear on the first page of the results and never any lower than the second page. 84 % will never proceed to the second page.

When designing and building web pages there are certain rules and techniques that if applied correctly will make your pages much more search engine friendly and thus significantly improve your ranking in search engines like Google.

That is why good web design on its own will not generate enquiries for your business. And since design and website optimisation are two different sets of skills, it is very hard do find a good designer that can also have the necessary optimisation skills. That is why on all of our projects we use an SEO expert and a design expert.

What is SEO?

October 15th, 2009

istock_000007453780xsmall2

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is often considered the more technical part of web marketing. Itcan be defined as the activity of optimizing web pages or whole sites in order to make them more visible to search engines, thus achieving higher positions in search results.
One of the basic truths of SEO is that, despite what you may have heard, there is no guarantee that you will achieve top ratings. However, , if you set realistic goals – i.e to get into the top 30 results in Google for a particular keyword, rather than be the number one for 10 keywords in 5 search engines, you will feel happier and more satisfied with your results.
Although SEO helps to increase the traffic to a site, SEO is not advertising. SEO techniques can help to achieve top placement because your site is relevant to a particular search term, not because you pay. The efforts used to create relevant terms on your website are referred to as keyword optimisation. In reality, a web page may only be optimised for one or two keywords. This focus helps you to achieve high ranking in Google for those keywords.
SEO, depending on your objectives and budget, may be an ad-hoc activity or a permanent solution. Sometimes it is enough to do some generic SEO in order to rank highly in search engines – for instance, if you are a leader for rare keywords, then little effort is required in order to achieve a satisfactory placement. However, in most cases, constant effort needs to be applied to SEO for it to be truly effective. . If you plan to do some basic SEO, it is essential that you understand how search engines work and which items are most important .
If you want to understand more about SEO we recommend two websiteswhich are excellent sources of information: www.seochat.com and www.seomoz.com.

How web design and SEO work together?

October 15th, 2009

istock_000009220997xsmall2
Design makes your web pages look great
SEO helps you get discovered

How can they work together in harmony?

Having worked with web designers and developers over the last ten years, we have always noticed that the people who are excellent at design and interface tend not to have the necessary expertise in coding and technicalities and vice versa. Then, there is a third group who have emerged in the last few years, called “SEO specialists” SEO specialists not only have a solid technical understanding, but more importantly they have the relevant business and marketing experience to be able to help clients with a winning online strategy and achieve top ranking in search engine results.

So how do design and SEO professionals work together? From our experience, this is made possible only with effective team work. For example, on any design and SEO project we deploy at least three people; a designer, a developer and an SEO specialist. Depending on the size of the project we may also employ one of our professional copywriters and a larger development team.

With the team working well in this way, the important building blocks of your website come seamlessly together, producing magnificent results for your business.

If you want a great site , you’ve got to test it

July 10th, 2009

What is usability testing?

In a usability test, one user at  a time is shown something (whether it’s a website, prototype of a site, or some sketches of individual pages) and asked to either (a) figure out what it is, or (b) try to use it to do a typical task.

The above definition is from the book Don’t make me think by Steve Krug.

Recently we carried out a user testing session for the new onestopclick.com. The user testing showed to be a very valuable and we received good feedback. Hence we decided to ask Paul a few questions about his experience.

Interview with Paul Denham from Onestopclick

Did you find the user testing service valuable?

Paul: Yes I found this beneficial. There is no substitute for getting real people testing the site in real time and having the benefit of recording their every move

What was your perception about user testing before dealing with Netgrade?

Paul: I was aware of user testing but hadn’t employed it before. My perception was that it would be very costly. It was good to see Netgrade offered this.

What was your experience and what did you get out of it?

Paul: User testing proved to be an important part of the refining and testing process. For us it was especially useful to have a video of the testing, enabling analysis in our own time and helped us drawing up a list & priority of changes to the design and navigation.

Would you recommend it to others?

Paul: I would recommend the user testing facility to others. However you must ensure the user group is varied and representative of your intended audience. Make sure the people carrying out the testing are ‘neutral’ rather than the site’s architects or designers.

Paul Denham is the founder of www.onestopclick.com a leading technology research website.
